"Vicki
Ingham records the Tuscan countryside with great verve. Her landscapes
are sweeping interpretations of rolling terrain and rocky outcroppings….Her
street scenes capture the organic quality of simple structures that
seem to lean into each other for natural support. Ingham's paintings
capture the mood and atmosphere of nature. She uses paint with a
kind of splashy abandon that works well in producing the atmospheric
qualities of clouds and sky as well as the rolling hills and valleys."

“Vicki Ingham’s paintings are depictions
of sunlight laved over nature. She paints still lifes and landscapes in
rich tones that ebb and flow with viscous certainty. High-key yellows
illuminate streets and rooms. The cool blues and lavenders of oblique
shadows provide a structural vitality that is arrestingly attractive.”

Although my primary interest in painting landscapes
has been to capture the quality of remembered light, the landscapes of
Italy offer another attraction, in addition to the light. The land, particularly
in Tuscany, has a musical quality, with forms weaving together harmoniously
in an infinitely satisfying way. The rolling hills evoke the look of solid
muscle covered with velvet skin. I strive to find that music on the canvas,
to convey with color the rolling, muscular shapes of the land in all their
solidity and poetry.

I work from photos as well as from sketches made
from life. I use the photos to capture compositions of patterns of light
and shadow, which I then interpret in oil on canvas.
Another body of work focuses on women—a woman—and
the way clothing and accessories can imply a story, a persona, a history.
The figure in her setting seems to suggest a narrative, but I leave it
to the viewer to decide what the story is.
